A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a senior student or newly qualified actuary (or candidate with equivalent expertise) to join our actuarial consulting team, initially supporting the IFRS 17 project.
The team influences and delivers change across both local and global teams. The team works in collaboration with the Chief Life Actuary, Executives and Head Office. They provide effective solutions to regulatory and business changes, working in an agile, flexible, collaborative manner across a number of business areas.
They are looking for a self-driven senior student or newly qualified actuary, with life assurance reporting experience, to enhance the team’s capabilities to implement IFRS 17 and other significant business projects. This role would suit a candidate with good technical, analytical and communication skills, capable of working with a variety of people.
This role is available part-time, job-share or full time. This is because we want the best people for our roles, and we recognise that sometimes those people aren’t available full-time.
Under minimal supervision, assist in the implementation of the new IFRS 17 process:
Validate the financial outcomes from dry runs
Refine working assumptions in parameters and models
Assist with the resolution of identified defects
Validate and forecast new IFRS 17 financial metrics
Provide thought leadership on activities with a low to moderate level of complexity and contribute to problem solving on activities with a higher level of complexity
Engage in peer reviews of methodology, models and documentation, providing appropriate challenge and suggestion for improvements
Work collaboratively in a technical change team to deliver effective solutions, within project timelines and to required quality, overcoming challenges as they arise
Make informed actuarial and business recommendations based on professional judgment and experience.
Develop a culture of continuous improvement that focuses on enhancing the service provided to the stakeholders
Create and maintain strong working relationships
Senior student or newly qualified fellow of IFoA, with two or more years’ experience of working in an life actuarial team, and some experience of working in an actuarial life assurance reporting team
Experience of reporting procedures, processes and operating controls for a robust delivery of reliable and accurate financial reporting to auditable standards
Ability to interpret technical guidance and produce technical documentation
Ability to plan work activity to realistic deadlines and deliver to schedule
Confident communicator that is able to document and explain technical material to a range of stakeholders
Excellent IT skills, specifically Word and Excel
SQL skills or similar coding language experience
Comfortable in working in a change environment
Ability to deal with ambiguity, adapt quickly and provide rapid solutions to issues
Strong proactive team player who works collaboratively
Enthusiastic and positive attitude with a desire to drive the business forward
Strong communication and influencing skills, both written and oral
A self-starter committed to deliver quality work to set deadlines
Ability to prioritise and focus to deliver the end results
Able to build and maintain relationships at all levels of staff
