Data Modelling and Engineering Lead

Our opportunity

 

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled solution architect to join our Enterprise Data Architecture and Analytics (EDAA) organization. You will work on Business Intelligence and Analytics projects for various Business Units and Group Functions. In this role you will be accountable for the overall Solution Design, ensuring the scalable and reliable IT Architecture.

 

Your role

 

As a Data Modelling and Engineering Lead your main responsibilities will involve

 

  • Managing a team of Data Modelers and Solution Designers covering the span of Data Analytics & Business Intelligence tools including Design and Implementation
  • With a highly motivated team you are capable to translate the company incl. Group Technology & Operations strategy into real data driven solutions, from design thinking, to proof of concepts / prototypes to final product as productive solutions
  • Driving the requirements engineering as part of the project proposal phase to provide the best solution for the business need leveraging a combination of the various Data Analytics technology stacks.
  • Advocate for Data Analytics & Business Intelligence Solutions and Concepts
  • Overseeing the projects resources managing the allocation of Data Modelling resources and working closely with multiple internal clients
  • Collaboration with Enterprise Architecture, Platform Management, Service Management, Data Delivery and Purchasing
  • Develops design standards and guidelines.
  • Applies advance data modelling practice using Data Vault.
  • Integrates data analytics with DevOps practices for an agile deployment.
  • Implements end-to-end BI solutions with little supervision.
  • Ensures alignment with Enterprise Architects and Data Architects, as well as the broader Group Operations community.
  • Supervises the technical dimension of the implementation by performing validation and approvals of work done by delivery teams.
  • Develops concepts for compliance to IT standards through system-driven quality controls (e.g. naming conventions).
  • Is able to work on globally running initiatives, engaging with different Business stakeholders and IT colleagues in different cultures, capturing the requirements and producing the results that work according to standards and best practices.
  • Contribute to define a stack of technologies to support the definition of corporate ready end to end solutions that could be industrialized using EDAA capabilities. Focus on integrating the diverse layers that conform vertical solutions (ETL, data modelling, analytics, visualization), adopting latest approved market trends (cloud, edge computing, IoT, Artificial Intelligence). 
  • Support the creation and continuation of user communities for Data Analytics and propose re-usable assets (experience exchange, training) to improve the group dynamics.
  • Advise and support the translation of the business demand in data driven solutions that our lean execution-focused team develop rapidly.
  • Performs requirements engineering ahead of project initiation by identifying appropriate solution architecture and evaluating reusability opportunities of existing shared platforms across analytics, design, architecture and build areas
  • Lead the design authority (IT Solution Architecture) for the projects based on Microsoft BI technologies (e.g. MS SQL, SSIS, Azure Data Factory, Azure SQL, Power BI), and ensures adherence to standards in all work streams across the globe.

 

 

Your Skills and Experience

 

As a Data Modelling and Engineering Lead your skills and qualifications will ideally include:

 

Qualifications & required experience:

  • Education profile with technology or business background and with a university degree is highly desired.
  • Minimum 10 years of work experience in technical positions, including min. 3 years as an Application Architect in BI space.
  • Proven industry experience in Insurance or Finance is a big plus.         

 

Soft Skills:

  • Good knowledge of Business Intelligence landscapes with complex architecture, covering backend and frontend components.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
  • Able to work well across different teams and cultural backgrounds
  • Able to perform requirements engineering and take accountability for the results
  • A track record of making complex business decisions with authority, even in times of ambiguity, considering the potential long-term risks and implications
  • Proponent for innovation, best practices, sound design with data & information optimization in mind, strong development habits, and efficient team/project structures.
  • Capable of articulating complex designs, code and applications for large scale projects to a simple to understand non-technical client-facing standard.


Technical Skills:

  • Highly skilled in different integration solutions and architectures.
  • Solid experience in advanced data modelling techniques such as Data Vault.
  • Proven deep experience with Microsoft BI technologies:
    • SQL Server Database: Performance optimization, automation, etc.
    • ETL with SSIS and Azure Data Factory
    • DevOps with Visual Studio and Azure DevOps
  • Experience with cloud solutions (IAAS, PAAS), and hybrid landscapes with on-premises and Cloud-based components.
