This role will be challenging and there will be a lot to learn but you will be joining an experienced team where development is key, and support will be given all the way.

What will you be doing?

As a Senior Market Underwriter, some of your key activities include:

 

  • Qualify customer accounts to meet with the organisation's appetite whilst striving to create customer focused solutions
  • Accurately select, assess and price risk in line with underwriting mentorship
  • Make clear recommendations for market pricing, backed up by strong rationale and confident decision-making
  • Deliver against key underwriting metrics & financial measures as outlined in the financial plan
  • Supporting the team manager in driving performance and improving service deliver
  • Develop, maintain & collaborate with Line of Business representatives on referrals and other business-related needs, as appropriate
  • Provide mentorship and coaching to the wider team in order to help with colleagues’ development.
  • Demonstrate market visibility & underwriting expertise
  • Take the lead on broker negotiations as required
  • Have an external presence within the Housing Sector, visiting our customers regularly ensuring you fully understand their risk & insurance requirements
  • Serve as a key Zurich contact for our customers

 

 

Who are we looking for?

Ideally, you will have the following skills and experience but don’t worry if you don’t tick these boxes.

 

  • Underwriting experience within a General Insurance product, preferably Property and Casualty lines of business with some knowledge of Motor
  • Ability to confidently and effectively assess risk
  • Excellent communication and coaching skills
  • Commerciality and strong negotiation skills
  • Superior skills in relationship building, active listening, and needs analysis
  • ACII CII Qualified or actively working towards accreditation
  • Strong knowledge of underwriting philosophy, techniques, national regulations and guidelines would be beneficial but not essential
