Brexit Finance Lead


Job Summary

Zurich Insurance Plc is looking for a Brexit Finance Lead to lead the Brexit project for ZIP HO Finance from now until the completion of the ZIP Brexit plan (currently expected in 2023). This varied role will require strong accounting knowledge combined with stakeholder management and good organisations skills. The role will report directly to the ZIP Financial Controller, working closely with the ZIP Head of Capital Management and the wider Finance team to ensure the successful execution of the ZIP Brexit plan within ZIP HO Finance.

Your Role

As a Brexit Finance Lead your main responsibilities will include, but not necessarily be limited to, the following:

Financial impacts of Portfolio Transfer including but not limited to: 

  • Investigating, understanding and documenting the impacts on all GAAPs and Solvency including defining detailed transaction accounting 
    • Input to and review of independent expert work including scenario analysis as needed 
    • Considering wider impacts of transaction on ZIP balance sheets 
    • Interaction with ZIP IFRS17 project 
  • Reinsurance project work including:
    • Supporting novation and commutation of UK contracts as part of portfolio transfer 
    • Leading novation/commutation of ZIP specific contracts 
    • Defining accounting for novations/commutations 
    • Working with reinsurance team to define other reinsurance impacts and consider changes required to end state reinsurance for ZIP including FOS. 
  • TPR, Freedom of services (FOS):
    • Monitoring status of TPR in the UK, liaising with UK team, facilitating support from ZIP HO as needed 
    • Considering and implementing necessary ZIP HO governance during TPR 
    • Understanding strategy for back-book and front-book FOS business 
    • Considering unforeseen impacts on ZIP HO and any changes to processes required 
  • Project Mgmt:
    • Ensuring a comprehensive plan is in place for the project with agreement from all stakeholders 
    • Managing the plan, including various contributors and deliverables, on a dynamic basis, adapting as needed 
    • Monitoring progress to plan and escalating as needed where progress is behind schedule 
    • Recommending required resources to complete project 

Stakeholder Management

Stakeholder management:

  • Co-ordinating and working with ZIP actuarial, capital management, reinsurance and investments, 
  • Engaging with non-Finance functions in ZIP HO to ensure Finance is aligned to the wider ZIP HO project 
  • Engaging with the Group, UK and Ireland projects to they are aware and catering for ZIP HO requirements and that ZIP HO are aware of requirements from other parts of the project 
  • Responsible for presenting analysis to wider ZIP Finance and ZIP CFO and wider Management as needed. 


  • Internal Finance Team including the ZIP Financial Controller and the ZIP Head of Capital Management, ZIP CFO, ZIP Actuarial and Investments 
  • ZIP Management team including ZIP COO, ZIP CUO, General Counsel, Head of Regulatory affairs 
  • Group Brexit team, 
  • Various workstreams of the UK Brexit team, 
  • Ireland FOS team 
  • Legal & Tax functions 
  • Risk and Compliance Functions 
  • CBI 

Your Skills and Experience

As a Brexit Finance Lead your skills and qualifications will include: 

Technical Competencies: 

  • 7 years + Qualified Chartered Accountant with insurance industry experience 
  • Strong understanding of Irish GAAP and IFRS 
  • Strong understanding of the Solvency II requirements 
  • Ability to analyse, explain and answer technical accounting questions independently 
  • Previous involvement in large Finance transactions, e.g. portfolio transfers 
  • Experience in SAP reporting tools (Business Explorer) 
  • Intermediate to advanced Microsoft excel skills 

Non-Technical Competencies: 

  • Strong communication skills, written and verbal, to senior management level;
  • Clear and logical thinking 
  • Organisational and motivational skills to ensure tight reporting deadlines can be met to the required high standard 
  • Presenting skills to highlight key messages in the financial reporting to management 
  • Ability to build strong working relations with peers, colleagues and with remote based teams 
  • Willingness to seek out all available sources of information to solve questions and make decisions 
  • Recognition of the high importance of the control framework for financial reporting 
  • Self-checking skills appropriate to the level of the job role 
  • Team player - identifying and responding to cross dependencies within the team 
  • Positive outlook and flexibility to handle change, including need for exceptional effort as required 

Additional Information

Primary work location is Dublin. Position is IFSC-based but occasional travel may be required to other Zurich locations.
