Internal Controls Specialist

Job Summary

 

Zurich Life Assurance is looking for an Internal Controls Specialist to be responsible for contributing to the operational delivery, oversight and monitoring of risk and control methodologies, frameworks, and definition of related procedures to drive enhancements.

 

This first line role sits within a newly formed Internal Controls function. The focus of the role is to drive standards of consistency and quality in the design and operation of internal controls within ZLAP, working closely with first line functions and business areas.

Your Role

 

As an Internal Controls Specialist your main responsibilities will include, but not necessarily be limited to, the following:

 

  • Assisting in the operational delivery of the internal controls function strategy/agenda into day to day controls enhancements and improved assurance;
  • Working with first line functions to calibrate control standards and consistency across the business and supporting controls rationalization;
  • Supporting the oversight of first line controls testing in the Company to drive consistency in the application of the first line testing framework across all functions e.g. consistency of approach in defining key controls and consistency of approach in the testing and documentation of outcomes;
  • Assist in the  analysis and use of available business data to assess control effectiveness more efficiently, effectively and with greater coverage and assurance.
  • Coordinate the delivery of the latest automation and technology-based methods to better assess control effectiveness  
  • Work closely with first line functions (including risk champions, controls testers) to manage and help resolve any queries and challenges they may have in the operation of their day to day control responsibilities
  • Performing quality assurance (QA) reviews and assisting in deep-dive/ enhancement programs to drive greater quality controls design, execution, greater efficiency and rationalization.;
  • Representing the internal controls function in supporting business transformation initiatives/projects by proactively engaging in such initiatives/projects to ensure ‘controls thinking’ throughout; and
  • Providing training, workshops and other targeted activities to maintain a high and consistent standard of controls awareness and application.

Your Skills and Experience

 

As an Internal Controls Specialist your skills and qualifications will include:

 

  • Professional Qualification and experience in the following fields; internal controls, risk management, quality assurance and/or internal/external audit;
  • Knowledge and understanding of governance/assurance processes and control environments.
  • Excellent communication skills;
  • Strong client focus, combined with analytical and problem-solving skills;
  • Effective relationship management skills;
  • Proven track record in delivering key objectives, with a demonstrated ability to ‘take ownership’ in managing multiple tasks; and
  • Ability to work within tight deadlines and complete deliverables as assigned by the Head of Internal Controls.

 

Additional Information

 

Primary work location is Blackrock. Position is Dublin-based but occasional travel may be required to other Zurich locations.
