Operational Risk Analyst

Job Summary

 

As a Operational Risk Analyst, you will work with a dynamic risk management team from diverse backgrounds with experience in Risk Management, Business, IT, Operations, Actuarial Science, Banking and Finance. 

 

Reporting to the Operational Risk Manager, you will:

 

•    Work with a highly motivated and collaborative team;
•    Be involved in embedding the operational risk pillar of the Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) framework to meet both internal and external requirements; and
•    Be part of the Zurich Group’s global risk management network that develops risk methodologies and provides subject matter expertise to the business.
 

Your Role

 

Overall responsibilities include, but will not be limited to, the following:

 

Risk Identification and Assessment:

  •  Support the 2nd line review and challenge activities
  • Assist with the completion of risk assessments and risk reviews, ensuring regular follow-up and reporting on improvement actions 

 

Risk Response:

  • Support the review and challenge of proposed 1st line risk responses
  • Undertake challenge meetings with management and identify opportunities for appropriate risk mitigations.

 

 Monitoring: 

  • Assist with performing risk monitoring activities;
  • Monitor operational loss event and near miss reporting for completeness;
  • Follow up with 1st line on outstanding actions
  • Prepare detailed analysis of reported loss events and near misses, reporting any findings to management.

 

Assurance: 

  • Support assurance activities to ensure risks are effectively monitored and managed;

 

Governance and Reporting: 

  • Support the risk management team in the implementation and maintenance of an effective operational risk pillar of the ERM framework
  • Assist with the preparation of reports to the Risk Oversight Committees.

 

Engagement: 

  • Promote risk culture awareness throughout the organisation;
  • Facilitate the monthly Risk Champion Forum
  • Identify opportunities for developing efficiencies within the operational risk management processes.

 

Training: 

  • Support the development of training materials;
  • Support the 1st line to adopt Group Risk Management tools, templates, and methodologies
  • Assist with the delivery of training and communications to Risk Champions. 

Your Skills and Experience

 

Required: 


•    Strong analytical and influencing skills, with experience or ability to engage at different levels across the organisation;
•    Good inter-personal and communication (spoken and written) skills;
•    Motivation and ability to learn and deliver in an outcome-focused and changing environment;
•    2 years+ experience in insurance, risk management, audit, compliance, or finance is desirable, but we are also keen to hear from those who have worked in a relevant business / operations area where risk management practices have applied;
•    Risk Management or Business-related 3rd level or professional qualification or willingness to undertake a Risk Management qualification;
•    Good understanding of the regulatory environment for life insurance companies or broader financial services 
•    Fluency in English, both spoken and written.

 

Desired: 


•    Experience working in a 2nd line risk management function, particularly operational risk, would be an advantage.

•    Meet reporting deadlines and reporting quality standards;
•    Become a trusted business partner and display high levels of integrity; and
•    Escalation of risk exposures above tolerances to management. 

Additional Information

 

Primary work location is Blackrock. Position is Dublin-based but occasional travel may be required to other Zurich locations.

 

This role is hybrid, requiring 2-3 days in the office per week.
