Programme Manager


Job Summary

Zurich Life Assurance is currently recruiting for a Programme Manager. The sucessful candidate will be responsible for the operational management of distinct mid- size local/regional projects or mid-size projects of a program and ensuring that the overall project objectives are clearly defined and met.

These projects from a total cost perspective typically range from USD 1-5 million, are characterized by medium complexity, medium change and communications elements and important business impact. The Programme Manger understands and is able to apply different delivery approaches (waterfall, Scrum, ZurichLean) and performs, independently, project management processes to initiate, plan, execute, monitor and control as well as close a project in accordance with the Zurich Project Management Framework and the Zurich Risk Policy.

Job Accountabilities - Key Accountabilities

• Successful implementation of mid-size or medium complexity local/regional projects or mid-size or medium complexity projects of a program.
• Select appropriate processes required to meet the project objectives.
• Adapt to and apply different delivery methodologies including Scrum, Waterfall, and Zurich Lean.
• Establish and maintain appropriate communication and engagement with stakeholders.
• Comply with requirements to meet stakeholder needs and expectations.
• Balance the competing constraints of scope, schedule, budget, quality, resources, and risk to produce the specified product, service, or result.
• Ensure change readiness of receiving organization.
• Train and mentor next generation of project managers.
• Promote project management profession in the Organization.
• Support the sponsor in the setup of the project to ensure the business case is clearly defined (including estimates of required resources and funds) and relevant stakeholders are engaged as part of evaluating the preferred product solution.
• Identify, define, combine, unify, and coordinate the various project management processes and activities within the Zurich Project Management Framework to evaluate the proposed delivery method and (tailored) project management artifacts to be applied based on the circumstances and nature of the project, to manage successful project outcomes.
• Make choices about resource allocation, make trade-offs among competing objectives and alternatives, and manage the interdependencies among the project management areas to ensure project success.
• Develop a detailed project plan at task level based on the agreed business case, manage and control project delivery in accordance with baseline parameters and standards (time, cost, quality) to drive project success.
• Determine quality policies, objectives, and responsibilities so that the project will satisfy the needs for which it was undertaken and the project requirements, including product requirements, are met and validated.
• Ensure timely and appropriate planning, collection, creation, distribution, storage, retrieval, management, control, monitoring, and the ultimate disposition of project information to enable effective decision making and ensure successful project outcomes.
• Conduct risk management planning, identification, analysis, response planning, and controlling risk on a project to increase the likelihood and impact of positive events, and decrease the likelihood and impact of negative events in the project.
• If necessary, purchase or acquire products, services, or results needed from outside the project team to ensure successful project outcomes.
• Identify the people, groups, or organizations that could impact or be impacted by the project. Understand and analyze their needs and expectations and their impact on the project, addresses issues as they occur, manage conflicting interests and develop appropriate management strategies for effectively engaging stakeholders in project decisions and execution.


Job Qualifications

Core Technical Competencies

  • 10+ years Project Management experience, including experience in large, complex, multi-location programs or projects
  • Strong track record of delivering in an Agile environment
  • Proven track record of delivering complex, multi-process technology solutions in a legacy IT environment
  • Technology literate, with proven experience in managing system integration projects
  • Strong understanding of product and design and ideally have worked with design or product teams
  • Experience of working in and managing customer and vendor relationships in a matrixed management environment
  • Life insurance experience in the Irish market preferable

Non-Technical Competencies

  • Self-starter with a track record of seamless execution on complex projects with minimal guidance
  • Strong facilitation and stakeholder management skills and are comfortable working side-by-side with company leaders
  • Excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills with an ability to relate to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Excellent customer / relationship management skills
  • Strong attention to detail, highly analytical mindset
  • Able to stand their own ground and appropriately challenge own team and other stakeholders
  • Strong problem solving / critical reasoning capabilities
  • Demonstrable ability to work to tight deadlines  
  • Proactive and flexible approach; ability to work effectively with multiple priorities in parallel
  • Confidence in applying judgment based on own experience
