Paralegal II, Workers Comp

Zurich North America’s Staff Legal Office is currently hiring a Paralegal II to join their Workers Comp team!  Under the supervision of an attorney, the successful candidate’s work will be in support of moderate to complex liability litigation cases (e.g. case work, research, discovery responses, subpoenas, etc.). The preferred candidate will demonstrate experience with general liability.

In this role you will be responsible for: 

 

  • Providing legal support to 3 attorneys
  • Drafting legal pleadings, correspondence, and other documents as directed
  • Providing legal support such as legal and documentary research
  • Monitoring case schedules and filing deadlines
  • Conducting interviews, summarizing depositions, medical records
  • Preparing discovery requests and responses
  • Assisting in trial preparation 
  • Responding to inquiries from and interacting with customers, clients, counsel, and witnesses
  • Keeping track of billable hours.
  • Organizing and maintaining case files and documentation, electronically
  • Contributing to the team effort by accomplishing related results and participating on projects as needed  

 

Required:

  • A certificate of completion of a paralegal program approved by the American Bar Association.

           OR

  • A certificate of completion of a paralegal program at, or a degree from, a postsecondary institution that requires the successful completion of a minimum of 24 semester, or equivalent, units in law-related courses and that has been accredited by a national or regional accrediting organization or approved by the Bureau for Private Postsecondary and Vocational Education.

          OR

  • A baccalaureate degree or an advanced degree in any subject, a minimum of one year of law-related experience under the supervision of an attorney who has been an active member of the State Bar of California for at least the preceding three years or who has practiced in the federal courts of this state for at least the preceding three years, and a written declaration from this attorney stating that the person is qualified to perform paralegal tasks.

            OR

  • A high school diploma or general equivalency diploma, a minimum of three years of law-related experience under the supervision of an attorney who has been an active member of the State Bar of California for at least the preceding three years or who has practiced in the federal courts of this state for at least the preceding three years, and a written declaration from this attorney stating that the person is qualified to perform paralegal tasks.  The experience and training shall be completed no later than December 31, 2003.

           AND

  • Experience conducting electronic database research
  • Experience drafting legal documents, correspondence, and/or pleadings
  • Experience in litigation legal support

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Defense experience
  • Insurance industry experience
  • Jurisdictional experience in MA and RI
  • Ability to effectively conduct electronic database research, including Lexus Nexis
  • Microsoft 365 Office, strong computer skills in Windows 10
  • Comfortable working in a paperless work environment
  • Strong communication & writing skills.
  • Be able to work independently
  • Experience with direct client contact
  • Experience assisting with exhibits in trial
  • Comfortable working in a remote & an office environment.
  • CORE Registered Paralegal (CRP)
  • PACE Registered Paralegal (PRP)
  • Certified Paralegal (CP)
  • Certified Legal Assistant (CLA)
  • Professional Paralegal (PP)

At Zurich, compensation for roles is influenced by a variety of factors, including but not limited to the specific office location, role, skill set, and level of experience. Additional rewards may encompass short-term incentive bonuses and merit increases. We encourage candidates with salary expectations beyond the provided range to apply as they will be considered based on their experience, skills, and education. 

The compensation indicated represents a nationwide market range and has not been adjusted for geographic differentials pertaining to the location where the position may be filled. The proposed hourly rate for this position is $27.64 - $45.34, with short-term incentive bonus eligibility set at 5%.
