Head of FT Statutory reporting

Job Summary

Acts in an actuarial capacity, performing routine reserving, economic valuation, pricing or product development tasks as assigned and provides actuarial support for more complex analyses and investigations working closely with senior actuaries, all for the purpose of setting appropriate reserves, valuing life business and/or developing new, or maintaining existing, products.

Job Accountabilities - Key Accountabilities

Under minimal supervision, support regular valuation of actuarial reserves, financial reporting of embedded value and new business value, preparation of data for solvency and risk-based capital calculations to required quality and timelines for management reporting and business decision-making purposes.


• Support the coordination, preparation, and production of routine actuarial analyses including demographic experience analysis, new business profitability analysis and forward looking projections of capital availability and solvency to required quality and timelines for management reporting and business decision-making purposes.
• Provide support for periodic reviews of bonus rates, premium rates or unit-linked charges to ensure they remain sustainable and appropriate.
• Provide consultation on actuarial and risk quantification modeling approaches and implement routine cash flow model developments to ensure quality of model output.
• Support Finance, market-facing business units, Claims, Risk, Capital Management, Investment Management, Actuarial and other functions and actuarial business partners on reserving, reinsurance, solvency, risk and capital management and other operational and strategic business decisions by providing necessary data and analyses to required quality and timelines; provide support to users of output in case of follow-up questions or queries.
• Provide regulatory filing support e.g. preparation of statutory returns for local insurance regulator, premium rate filings, bonus rate revisions.
• Ensure that the valuation processes for the assigned Business Unit(s) are appropriately governed and controlled in accordance with Group, Regional, and Local internal / regulatory policies.
• Perform complex statistical analysis, e.g. business mix analyses, comparisons of actual to expected.
• Provide technical and quantitative support for actuarial model building e.g. implementation of pricing models, projection models, design of models.
• Support the senior actuary review competitor products; analyze differences to in-house products offered or under development.
• Work with the administration team and IT/Operations to ensure accurate data is available for the preparation of management information.
• Test systems, e.g. peer review models built by other team members.
• Present results of investigations and analyses performed to senior members of product development community.

Job Functions


• Provide thought leadership on portfolios with a moderate level of complexity / diversity and/or local regulatory scrutiny or contribute to problem solving on portfolios with higher level of complexity / diversity and regulatory scrutiny.

Business Accountabilities


• Provide professional actuarial support to the Business Unit´s actuarial management and to actuarial business partners including insights into underlying performance and implications for the business.

• Perform statistical analysis, model and analyze data and develop models/programs for complex model building and analyses; interpret results of models and analyses.

• Manage the flow and quality of relevant actuarial data to ensure robust output.

• Develop methodologies, assumptions, qualifications, and computer programs, using a variety of programming languages and software, to capture data for complex actuarial or statistical analyses.

• Responsible for development of processes and controls designed to achieve team objectives.

• Supervise actuarial analyses and reporting to support business decision-making process.

• Implement bonus/premium rate revisions, mortality/morbidity and management expense charge revisions, rate/charges development, competitor benchmarking, rate/charges proposals and, where appropriate, bonus/premium rate filings for existing and/or new/renewal business.

• Mentor less experienced actuaries and actuarial support analysts, providing guidance and review of their work to ensure that quality is up to the required standard.
