Head of Strategy & Execution


Job Purpose

The Role Holder is responsible for leading the annual strategic planning process, working closely with the Senior Management team to ensure seamless coordination/alignment and full support of broad strategic themes. The role holder reports and work closely with the Head of Takaful Operational Governance to make appropriate recommendations regarding Zurich strategic directions; consequently, will partner with the Segments and Functions Heads to define and re-align specific strategies to develop, roll out, execute, and maintaining Agency and Non-Agency Sales Strategy and Business Quality to the overall growth and profitability of ZTMB in full alignment with the overall Zurich Malaysia and Zurich Group’s Strategy.


Job Accountability

  • Lead the process of defining the overarching strategy of Zurich.
  • Link to the planning process and financial plan, periodic review of existing strategies, and monitor effective delivery and execution of strategy.
  • Ensure and track progress against robust operational plans that will deliver the financial plans as part of the annual planning process (including identifying appropriate resources, critical milestones, and dependencies).
  • Ensure and track progress against clear operational metrics for key commitments and critical milestones for strategic initiatives.
  • Support the definition of Segment and Function strategies to deliver a coherent and compelling Group Strategy.
  • Ongoing evaluation/validation of Zurich strategy relative to peers through analysis of the performance, strengths and weaknesses of key local competitors.
  • Proactively monitor, anticipate and assess local macro-economic and regulatory trends, ensuring that Zurich’s strategy optimally positions the firm to respond to change.
  • Embed strategic Corporate Social Responsibility into the strategy definition and be a contributor into thought leadership themes.
  • Manage the strategic execution area including: team recruitment, engagement and direction, management of strategic execution budget, coordination and prioritization of overall activities, ensuring quality of deliverables, capability building, ensuring efficient and effective relationship with the business as a whole.
  • Leverage strategic execution analytic support to highlight areas of progress/opportunity as well as potential concern.
  • Participate in the profitability reviews to understand the underlying portfolio dynamics and ensure that they are appropriately reflected in operational and strategic plans.
  • Participate in Operations Meetings to ensure prioritization of overall portfolio of initiatives is aligned with the strategic and operational plans, ongoing awareness of progress on key initiatives, and support of reminder of remediation if needed to keep key efforts on track.
  • Make the appropriate recommendations regarding ZTMB's performance aspirations and ensure balance between short/ mid-term priorities and long term strategic priorities in line with Zurich’s overall objectives.
  • Direct the ongoing evaluation/validation of the Zurich strategy relative to key local competitors and participate to strategy reviews at Segment and Functional level.
  • Ensure robust operational plans that will deliver the financial plans as part of the annual planning process (including identifying appropriate resources, critical milestones, and dependencies).
  • Ensure clear operational metrics for key commitments and critical milestones for strategic initiatives.
  • Lead key strategic initiatives and manage and the strategic execution team to provide analytic support as need for targeted improvement efforts across ZTMB, including coordination of support from internal or external strategic consultants on larger scale efforts/initiative.
  • Contribute to the overall growth of Agency Sales and Non-Agency takaful businesses including the formation and execution of the business strategy, management of expenses, sponsorship of significant development programmes of work.
  • Create the relevant analysis and management performance indicators for the management, strategic projects and stakeholders which includes Data simulation in sales projects, Cost controlling & monthly cost forecast, Control of the monthly payment lists and Full Time Employee planning and forecast.
  • Jointly develop and agree demand levels, unit costs and Service Level Agreements for shared services from Support and Control functions.
  • Optimize the operating model for the business in line with Zurich standards and policy and leveraging local, regional and global expertise.
  • Define and deliver support functions (e.g. Sales support, Operations support) and administration service for all BSE/BSMs.
  • Attracts, develops performance manage, retain and motivate capable sales agents in support of high performance, a strong succession plan, employee engagement, a positive culture and delivery of the function's current and planned responsibilities within expense and headcount allocations.
  • Identify ways to further increase the effectiveness and execute monitoring plan or oversee execution of monitoring plan.
  • Report or prepare adequate reporting regarding progress against monitoring plan, significant results, as well as escalation of overdue issues to governance committees and business management.
