Senior Project Manager

Job Summary

Responsible for the operational management of distinct mid- size local/regional projects or mid-size projects of a program and ensures that the overall project objectives are clearly defined and met. These projects from a total cost perspective typically range from USD 1-5 million, are characterized by medium complexity, medium change and communications elements and important business impact. Understands and is able to apply different delivery approaches (waterfall, Scrum, ZurichLean) and performs, independently, project management processes to initiate, plan, execute, monitor and control as well as close a project in accordance with the Zurich Project Management Framework and the Zurich Risk Policy.

Job Accountabilities - Key Accountabilities


• Successful implementation of mid-size or medium complexity local/regional projects or mid-size or medium complexity projects of a program, i.e.:
• Select appropriate processes required to meet the project objectives.
• Adapt to and apply different delivery methodologies including Scrum, Waterfall, and Zurich Lean.
• Establish and maintain appropriate communication and engagement with stakeholders.
• Comply with requirements to meet stakeholder needs and expectations.
• Balance the competing constraints of scope, schedule, budget, quality, resources, and risk to produce the specified product, service, or result.
• Ensure change readiness of receiving organization.
• Train and mentor next generation of project managers.
• Promote project management profession in the Organization.
• Support the sponsor in the setup of the project to ensure the business case is clearly defined (including estimates of required resources and funds) and relevant stakeholders are engaged as part of evaluating the preferred product solution.
• Identify, define, combine, unify, and coordinate the various project management processes and activities within the Zurich Project Management Framework to evaluate the proposed delivery method and (tailored) project management artifacts to be applied based on the circumstances and nature of the project, to manage successful project outcomes.
• Make choices about resource allocation, make trade-offs among competing objectives and alternatives, and manage the interdependencies among the project management areas to ensure project success.
• Develop a detailed project plan at task level based on the agreed business case, manage and control project delivery in accordance with baseline parameters and standards (time, cost, quality) to drive project success.
• Determine quality policies, objectives, and responsibilities so that the project will satisfy the needs for which it was undertaken and the project requirements, including product requirements, are met and validated.
• Ensure timely and appropriate planning, collection, creation, distribution, storage, retrieval, management, control, monitoring, and the ultimate disposition of project information to enable effective decision making and ensure successful project outcomes.
• Conduct risk management planning, identification, analysis, response planning, and controlling risk on a project to increase the likelihood and impact of positive events, and decrease the likelihood and impact of negative events in the project.
• If necessary, purchase or acquire products, services, or results needed from outside the project team to ensure successful project outcomes.
• Identify the people, groups, or organizations that could impact or be impacted by the project. Understand and analyze their needs and expectations and their impact on the project, addresses issues as they occur, manage conflicting interests and develop appropriate management strategies for effectively engaging stakeholders in project decisions and execution.

Job Functions


• Based on the need of the project manage internal and external relationships with business partners and suppliers as required Internal: Project management office, Project/Program managers and sponsors of related project(s) and program(s) if applicable, other function representatives impacted by assigned project(s) e.g. Business Areas, Marketing, Finance, Risk & Compliance, Audit, Legal etc. External: Outsourcing partners, suppliers and consultants, Technology experts, Zurich customers (based on the need of the project)
• Manage projects in accordance and compliance with related methodologies and policies: Zurich Project Management Framework, including all applicable components and supplements, Zurich Risk Policy, section 10.11 Project Risk and its appendices, Procurement policies, IT Infrastructure Library service management – for projects and programs with an IT component.
• These projects from a total cost perspective typically range from USD 1-5 million, are characterized by medium complexity, medium change and communications elements and important business impact.

Business Accountabilities


• Oversee business cases and program/project plans to ensure they meet financial requirements of the business.
• Lead the implementation of programs / projects to drive business change for the business change function to deliver defined objectives with allocated resources and in timescales of up to one year.
• Drive program / project portfolios in order to support an operational change to the business, typically for projects of up to one year.
• Provide program / project advisory services to colleagues across the business, to ensure understanding and adherence to the company's risk and compliance processes.
• Assess risks associated with the execution of change programs / projects, reporting to sponsor/steering committees in order to ensure risks are understood and to agree appropriate action.
• Analyze key program / project themes from a wide range of data sources in order to identify how different scenarios may impact on the business and the success of business change projects.
• Contribute to the development of program /project processes and lead the implementation of systems and process improvements in business change.
• Evaluate the most complex program / project / business change requirements and develop bespoke technical solutions to meet the requirements of the business customers within policy constraints.
• Advise senior management to support change through understanding and insight of programs / projects in order to have an impact on local business performance.
• Build relationships with middle management across a country or multiple countries to deliver business change programs / projects across these geographies.
