Location: We’re flexible! Occasional travel to London or Farnborough will be required

The opportunity:

Reporting into Yvonne Moore, Head of Underwriting, you will lead on Zurich Municipal’s Casualty and Motor lines of business. This is a great opportunity for someone with Casualty and/or Motor experience and looking to take that next step in their career.


This role is available part-time, job-share or full time. This is because we want the best people for our roles, and we recognise that sometimes those people aren’t available full-time.  Please talk to us at interview about the flexibility you may need.


What will you be doing?


As the Casualty & Motor Underwriting Manager, you will play a key role in evolving the Zurich Municipal Casualty & Motor portfolios of business, ensuring the customer needs are met and Zurich’s sustainability agenda is grown. Engagement across all levels is critical to this role and you will work with senior stakeholders across the UK Underwriting MFU’s and engage with external customers and parties, such as FCA.


Improving profitability & identifying opportunities for growth are key elements to the role as well as involvement in strategic renewal and tender negotiations with customers. Some other responsibilities of the role include:


  • Ensure consistent and enhanced Underwriting within Zurich Municipal
  • Manage the P&L and implementation of technical standards for the LOB
  • Establish exposure identification, risk assessment, risk response, control activities and LOB monitoring
  • Develop and maintain strategic partnerships internally and externally
  • Delivery of KPI’s through oversight of LOB
  • Identification & Delivery of LOB training needs
  • Develop strategic LOB goals and UW policy for ZM
  • Work with MFU stakeholders to execute LOB UW strategy, contribute to wider UK strategy through pan MFU engagement
  • Interpretation of global UW policies and recommend adaptations based on the local ZM market
  • Promote UW excellence internally and with customers
  • Policy Wordings & Proposition development

  • Strong technical knowledge & experience in UK Casualty & Motor Underwriting
  • Strong communication and influencing skills 
  • Portfolio management experience
  • People management and experience developing others is desirable
