Construction Underwriter (Part-Time, Job-Share, Full-Time)

The opportunity: 

 

As a member of the Commercial Insurance Energy and Construction team, you’ll underwrite, manage and develop a portfolio of Construction and Engineering Risks including Project Specific covers (CAR /EAR, DSU), Renewable Energy Projects, CECR and other Engineering policies in accordance with Zurich guidelines.

 

You’ll take a solution-oriented approach as you develop and maintain a strong network of relationships with our Broker partners and our Customers. Interaction and cooperation with other Lines of Business as needed to ensure we are able to respond to our customers’ needs.

 

You’ll also have the opportunity to assist in the training and development of other members of the team.

What will you be doing?

 

  • Underwrite and analyse new, existing and renewal business within delegated authority levels of highly complex assignments.
  • Administer and monitor underwriting rules and guidelines and insurance laws and Regulations and pricing manuals
  • Develop, maintain & collaborate with Line of Business representatives on referrals and other business-related needs, as appropriate.
  • Work closely with the Risk Engineering Team on major projects to evaluate and take the right underwriting decisions
  • Work with the Finance function and support the premium collection, whenever required
  • Provide subject matter expertise / guidance and support to other junior level underwriters 
  • Develop and maintain relationships with cedants & brokers in support of business retention and acquisition and provide solutions for their insurance related needs
  • Supports the sales culture by being a Help Point for agents, brokers and customers.
  • Proactively seek renewal and new account opportunities.
  • Complete detailed opportunity assessment with key distributors to identify growth opportunities
  • Qualify accounts to meet with the organization's appetite, balanced with sound business opportunity.
  • Negotiate Terms & Conditions and close deals.
  • Develop strong broker and client networks as related to industries underwritten by Business Unit.
  • Cross-Sell other lines of business to increase product density with the account.
  • Provide expertise on coverage issues with claims.
  • Handle & review large/complex underwriting submissions and annual underwriting reviews.
  • Benchmark and establish best practices.

 

What are we looking for?

 

  • Technical Engineering Degree or equivalent construction / engineering experience.
  • Engineering/Industry background in Civil, infrastructure, Oil, Gas, petrochemicals industry ideally.
  • Experience of working for Insurer/Reinsurer in Engineering Lines – based in the UK.
  • Experience working in multicultural environment.
  • Expertise in construction insurance policy wordings, including LEG, DE and equivalent broker and market clauses.
  • Disciplined approach to exposure evaluation, risk assessment and pricing.
