The opportunity: 

A new opportunity has arisen to join Zurich UK’s Public Affairs and Sustainability Team as a Sustanability Officer. In this varied role, you will work closely with the Head of Public Affairs and Sustainability and the team to support the delivery of Zurich's sustainability strategy.  The role will require you to build relationships across the business and help drive forward our sustainability strategy.

You will provide support on managing a range of sustainability projects, liaising with  internal and external stakeholders and supporting on reporting on the progress of agreed sustainability priorities and targets set by Zurich UK. In addition, you will lead on providing relevant intelligence on external developments around sustainability and Government policy initiatives.



Key responsibilities: 

  • Support the Head of Public Affairs & Sustainability and the Public Affairs Manager in implementing strategic and tactical objectives as they relate to Zurich´s sustainability agenda
  • Monitor relevant external developments and Government policy initiatives of relevance to Zurich’s sustainability agenda
  • Support colleagues internally on the delivery of the UK sustainability strategy
  • Lead on coordinating sustainability reporting, ensuring the ‘sustainability dashboard’ - that monitors organisational progress against objectives -  is up to date and accurate
  • Support in the drafting and production of the annual ClimateWise submission and in providing sustainability information to other reports and awards
  • Provide additional support for team members as required



Your skills and experience:

  • The ideal candidate will have at least two years’ experience working directly on sustainability or in a policy related role with responsibilities for sustainability, either in house or a think tank or similar organisation
  • You will be educated to degree level
  • You will have knowledge of sustainability issues and the UK’s political system and public policy environment
  • You will have excellent written and verbal communication skills and be able to distil complex information for internal and external audiences
  • You will be a self-starter, highly organised with a strong attention to detail, with an ability to manage multiple tasks and complexity confidently
  • The role is in a key strategic area and therefore an interest in business and the challenges of implementing sustiainability strategy is important.
