What is the opportunity?

We are currently looking for a Financial Crimes Expert (Trade & Economic Sanctions) for Zurich Cover-More (ZCM).  This role is responsible for providing specialist expertise in managing financial crime risks, with a focus on trade and economic sanctions. Reporting to the Head of Compliance Centre of Excellence, the role will support the development, implementation, and review of compliance programs to ensure adherence to evolving regulatory requirements.

This role offers the opportunity to collaborate with experts across compliance, legal, risk, and business functions, ensuring that Zurich Cover-More can effectively navigate the complexities of financial crime compliance. By fostering a strong compliance culture, the Financial Crime Expert will help embed regulatory awareness and ethical practices across the organization.

 

This position is based in New York City, NY.

What will you be doing?

  • Maintain a global, robust, and effective compliance framework with a primary focus on Trade and Economic Sanctions.
  • Support the development and maintenance of a strong control framework for sanctions screening, ensuring effectiveness across the end-to-end process.
  • Provide expert compliance advice, guidance, and input on Trade and Economic Sanctions to the global compliance network at all levels.
  • Coordinate a network of local, regional, and global sanctions subject matter experts (SMEs) to identify emerging trends, share knowledge, and promote best practices.
  • Serve as a key partner to local and regional Compliance officers, fostering alignment and consistency in sanctions compliance efforts.
  • Manage the Sanctions Desk, handling high-risk cases referred by local and regional units and providing expert analysis.
  • Analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) related to Trade and Economic Sanctions, generating insights to enhance compliance strategies and decision-making.
  • Prepare high-quality reports for business leadership, governance committees, and regulatory bodies, ensuring transparency and accountability.
  • Engage with senior stakeholders across Group Functions—including Claims and Underwriting—to understand business models and contribute to sanctions risk mitigation efforts.
  • Support oversight and assurance processes to ensure compliance with trade and economic sanctions requirements.

What are we looking for?

  • 5+ years of experience in financial services or regulatory compliance, ideally with knowledge of the insurance industry, particularly in commercial and global corporate business.
  • Bachelor's degree in economics, business administration, risk and compliance, or law (preferred).
  • Strong knowledge of Trade and Economic Sanctions compliance, including regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
  • Exceptional analytical skills, with the ability to develop and deliver effective management information and reporting.
  • Experience working in complex and large organizations, with the ability to navigate regulatory challenges.
  • Ability to operate within a large financial group, build strong relationships across business lines, and communicate effectively with senior leadership.
