Business Systems Analyst


Zurich is currently looking for a Business Systems Analyst to work out of our North American headquarters in Schaumburg, IL supporting a portfolio of Commercial and Underwriting Insurance applications as part of the Core Platforms Modernization team within Information Technology Services. 


This individual will work with the team to translate policy administration business requirements into technical specifications for application updates related to projects, enhancements, and compliance needs while working in an Agile environment supporting the design, construction, and implementation of these updates to the applications.


The ideal candidate will be an individual that is an energetic and skilled professional requiring minimal supervision, can lead others, and will serve as the liaison between the Business and IT.


The BSA will also have the ability to work with the Information Technology team supporting our Transactional Solutions Administration within the Application Development and Maintenance unit.


Other responsibilities may include: 


  • Coordinate and lead activities with business owners to gather detailed requirements through interviews, and documentation and facilitated working sessions for approved projects and enhancements.
  • Monitor business decisions and manage requirements documentation and communication.
  • Organize and manage multiple assignments with competing priorities and deadlines, while adhering to departmental guidelines and expectations.
  • Evaluate project impact through consultation with the business, regulatory, Information Technology management, development, quality assurance, validation, and training teams.
  • Lead analysis of requirements to determine the systems’ potential and define impact on other business units and systems.
  • Support the development team in the completion of impact assessments and validation of effort estimates.
  • Create process models based on business requirements to determine the completeness of the information and process components.
  • Utilize Unified Modeling Language tools in creating Use Cases, Class, and Sequence Diagrams based on the product design documentation.
  • Support system configuration and integration testing including the functionality, performance, and fit to ensure original requirements are met.
  • Use requirements management tools and techniques such as Use Cases, Data Matrix, Process Flow Diagrams, JIRA, etc.
  • Understand and apply delivery approaches (i.e. Agile methodology, Scrum) and perform, independently, business analysis processes following Zurich Project management framework and the Zurich risk policy
  • Provide subject matter expertise to others in the organization


Basic Qualifications:


  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration in Computer Science or Engineering and 5 or more years of experience in the Information Technology area
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent and 7 or more years of experience in the Information Technology area
  • Process reengineering, e.g. LEAN/Six Sigma, Continuous improvement methodologies
  • Process modeling tools
  • Business Systems Integration


Preferred Qualifications:


  • Knowledge of P&C insurance industry business processes
  • Familiarity with ISO commercial lines
  • 1 or more years of experience working in a Commercial insurance or Underwriting environment or knowledge of insurance business processes and processing
  • Analyzing insurance circulars and filing materials and translating into functional requirements
  • Ability to understand complex transactional processing standards required for premium allocation to support statistical and financial reporting
  • Experience working on Agile Scrum teams and facilitating requirements development discussions with Scrum team members
  • Ability to investigate Production Incidents and help resolve them on a timely fashion
  • Reviewing, augmenting and facilitating the development and execution of quality test plans to ensure test coverage meets the commensurate risk
  • Working with BA & Project Team to develop & present/communicate technical concept alternatives, integration decisions, issues, plans
  • 1 or more years of experience with Guidewire PolicyCenter
  • Assisting with formulating and defining systems (system configuration) scope and objectives through research and fact-finding combined with a basic understanding of business systems and industry requirements
  • Guiding users in building business cases, performing impact analysis, and supporting application testing, implementation and training activities throughout the process
  • Assisting with creation & refinement of design (mockup) on new functionality
  • Evaluating project impact through consultation with the business, regulatory / compliance, information technology management, development, quality assurance, validation, and training teams
  • Supporting and performing testing as necessary to ensure requirements are met
  • Experience working with various delivery methodologies, specifically the Agile methodology framework, preferred
  • Advanced Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills needed; ability to tailor approach based upon audience and message
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
