Data & Analytics Specialist - National Accounts


Zurich North America is looking for a Data Analytics Specialist to join the newly created Data & Analytics team within the National Accounts organization.  This role is based in our North American Headquarters in Schaumburg, Illinois.


The Data Analytics Specialist will support a variety of data-related initiatives for the Business Units within National Accounts on either the Large Property or Large Casualty & Captives team.


In this role you will:


  • Become a National Accounts data expert – cultivate expertise on the different business units’ data along with external sources so you can identify the right data to answer the question at hand
  • Provide real-time data-enabled decision support – deliver data and develop analyses to e.g., track business strategies, perform impact studies, and answer targeted business questions as they arise on a quick turn-around basis
  • Work closely with business stakeholders – develop an understanding of each business’ strategy and operations so you can translate stakeholders’ business questions into analytical work-products and communicate those work products in a way that drives action and achieves business impact
  • Gain exposure to advanced analytics –contribute to the development of complex analytical tools and help shape the approach to operationalize them within the business


Knowledge and experience in the following are critical to success:


  • Strong data acumen, i.e., an understanding of how to evaluate a data source’s strengths and weaknesses and how to select the right data to meet the business need
  • Experience working in the insurance industry and strong grasp of the business issues involved
  • Strong knowledge of SQL to extract data
  • Working knowledge of R, Python, or other data manipulation toolkit to transform and analyze data
  • Ability to translate a loosely defined business problem into an analytically tractable form
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proven track record working independently and collaboratively as a project member


Basic Qualifications:


  • Bachelor’s Degree and 2 or more years of experience in the Strategic and Operational Consulting area


Preferred Qualifications:


  • Strong SQL knowledge and experience
  • Experience with R and/or Python
  • Commercial Property & Casualty knowledge and experience
  • Ability to translate business needs into actionable objectives
