Mass Litigation Claims Specialist


Zurich is currently seeking a Claims Professional to join our Latent & Environmental team in Schaumburg.  This is an opportunity to apply your commercial claims subject matter expertise regarding large exposures, complex coverages, and litigated matters.


At Zurich, the Latent & Environmental Claims organization is dedicated to helping our customers resolve toxic tort, latent injury, class action, product liability and pollution losses.  As a member of our team, you will manage a claims caseload from assignment through resolution, with moderate direction from your team manager and Claims executives.  At this level, you will provide technical claims service on primarily litigated claims of moderate to high exposure and complexity under general liability, excess, and other coverages.  This requires significant policy interpretation and coverage analysis; retention and management of counsel and other vendors; collaboration with internal and external contacts, including underwriters, customers, and brokers; negotiation and claim resolution; and management of all communications and reporting associated with the life of a claim.


Some business travel (5-10%) may be required.


Basic Qualifications: 


  • Bachelor’s Degree and 3 or more years of experience in the Claims or Insurance area.

  • Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice, including an Associate Degree and 3 or more years of experience in Claims or Insurance Area

  • Completion of Zurich Claims Training Program and 3 or more years of experience in the Claims or Insurance Area

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent and 5 or more years of experience in the claims or Insurance area

  • Must obtain and maintain required adjuster license(s)

  • Microsoft Office Experience

  • Knowledge of insurance regulations, markets and products


Preferred Qualifications: 


  • Juris Doctor (J.D.)

  • 3 or more years of experience in claim handling and/or insurance defense that includes environmental, pollution, coverage, or toxic tort litigation

  • Negotiation experience

  • Strong analytical skills

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to multi-task and adapt to a changing environment

  • Strong organizational and time management skills

  • Ability to collaborate across work groups

  • Knowledge of the insurance industry, claims, and the insurance legal and regulatory environment

  • Knowledge of claims handling or insurance legal statutes and procedures
