Regional Head of Cat Modeling for North and Latin America


Zurich North America is currently hiring a Regional Head of Cat Modeling for North and Latin America. This great opportunity is within Zurich’s Accumulation Management team in Group Risk Management. The ideal candidate can work in Schaumburg, IL.  There is a possibility that the role could be remote.


The successful candidate in this role will be tasked with leading the modeling of catastrophe exposures produced by North and Latin America globally. As a people manager you are leading a team of highly qualified and experienced Catastrophe modelers dedicated to analyzing natural and man-made catastrophes as well as non-location specific scenarios (e.g. cyber, casualty cat). Your team is responsible for maximizing the value from vendor and in-house models, supporting the development of new risk insights and the implementation of the Group’s accumulation management vision through the Next Generation project. The ideal candidate is passionate about challenging the status quo and about improving the data processing and risk quantification through technology, innovation, and artificial intelligence. You are able to manage and prioritize high expectations from senior stakeholders, pro-actively engage with stakeholders and countries and communicate complex matters effectively. 


Additional responsibilities include:


  • Lead a regional Cat modeling team to model global perils for exposure produced within North and Latin America including Cat event response process
  • Define and implement a globally consistent best practice process for the data validation and modeling of all Cat exposures produced within the region.
  • Implement an appropriate frequency of modeling and managing non-modelled lines of business and non-modeled perils
  • Support the Cat R&D team in developing or validating new Cat models or modify existing models to implement our ‘Zurich View’ of Cat risk
  • Enable timely Cat reporting by providing risk insights to our stakeholders
  • Ensure exposure data requirements are set, understood, and implemented
  • Provide exposure and modeling results to Group Re and support reinsurance submissions
  • Support other Group Functions by providing expertise and model output as required


Basic Qualifications:


  • Bachelor’s Degree and 9 or more years of experience in the Risk Management or Underwriting or Broker or Carrier or Market Facing area within the Commercial Insurance industry AND
  • 2 or more years of management experience
  • Knowledge of product lines and insurance industry


Preferred Qualifications:


  • Master’s degree in numerical or natural sciences or actuarial qualifications
  • 8 or more years of experience in Cat Modeling and Management
  • Knowledge of insurance industry and product lines
  • 2 or more years of people management experience
  • Knowledge of insurance finance, statistics, and actuarial concepts
  • Ability to multi-task, working on many projects
  • Strong verbal and written communication and presentation skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong collaboration and teamwork skills
