SAP ABAP Developer


Zurich is currently searching for an SAP ABAP Developer work within our Corporate Enterprise Integration & Data Management unit out of our North American Headquarters in Schaumburg, IL.


The Developer will support and advise on the development of SAP S4 Finance modules by understanding the requirements of customers and recommending application performance improvements to ensure alignment with business requirements.  This role will also involve performing complex SAP ABAP design, development, coding, testing, debugging, and correction of work related to the implementation, enhancement, and support of SAP modules.   The programmer/developer will ensure that enhancements and changes meet established business requirements and are delivered with high level quality.

Accountabilities will include Creating Attribute Views, Analytic Views and Calculated views, creating Dashboards using SAP Analytics Cloud with SAP HANA Live Data Connection, capturing and documenting non-functional requirements, preparing estimates, defining technical solutions and working in a project environment which requires deploying solutions through a formal change control process


Other responsibilities may include but not be limited to:

  • Understanding customers’ processes and products and how they fit within the goals of the function or business unit
  • Working independently as an SAP Developer & S4 ABAP CDS Modeling
  • Responsible for the creation of S4 ABAP CDS Views for core SAP S4 Finance modules
  • Development of SAP Design Studio reports (Dashboard) and SAP BO Analysis for Office reports using S4 ABAP CDS views
  • Ability to work with business SME and technical staff to understand requirements and develops to specifications
  • Troubleshoot, analyze, and resolve technical problem
  • Performance tune HANA models
  • A strong understanding of security roles and privileges
  • Estimating Rough Order of Magnitude for the level of effort/cost of new application functionality
  • Performing quality review checks on project deliverables
  • Supporting and reviewing the documentation of functional specifications
  • Acting as liaison between the Business and IT, as assigned
  • Supporting the implementation activities, troubleshooting system environmental issues, and providing training as required
  • Specifying and/or recommending Integration and Parallel testing criteria


Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree and 7 or more years of experience in the Application Design and Development area
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent and 9 or more years of experience in the Application Design and Development area


Preferred Qualifications:

  • SAP Analytics Certifications highly preferred 
  • Insurance industry experience and knowledge of insurance industry business processes
  • Experience in understanding and applying various delivery approaches (i.e. Agile, Waterfall, Scrum)
  • Strong consultative experience preferred
  • Experience with collaborating across many teams
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • SAP ABAP development experience
  • Financial module experience
  • Able to identify and consider business implications of the application of technology to the current business environment
