Senior Solution Architect


Zurich is currently looking for an Senior Solution Architect to work out of our North American headquarters in Schaumburg, Illinois. 


The key responsibility of the Senior Solution Architect is to align IT strategy with business strategy with by delivering architectural solutions that produce business value. The Solution Architect will be responsible for delivering decisions frameworks that appropriately define the trade-offs of various alternatives in terms of business value. In addition, the Solution Architect will be responsible for defining roadmaps for various landscapes to provide a framework for progressing longer term IT and business benefits. including the reduction of the cost/complexity of IT landscape. The job’s core deliverables rely on influencing or negotiating with a range of internal clients, IT leadership and senior business partners by making use of deep technical knowledge, strong insurance domain knowledge and the ability build trusted relationships with IT and business partners.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Taking ownership of assignments with defined objectives and be able to formulate approaches and involve appropriate resources with minimal need for direction while balancing the demands of architecture strategic directions and standards, with delivery demands and other conflicting demands.
  • The ability to be seen as a partner with senior leaders on the business side by providing technical guidance while understanding and speaking the language of the domain the architect is operating within
  • The ability to provide leadership through expertise and which is recognized within the organization by individuals seeking you out for assistance
  • The ability to think strategically about how IT can provide benefits to deliver both near-term and longer-term business value
  • The ability to develop decision frameworks considering the potential long-term risks and cost implications.
  • Continually maintaining expertise in technology and insurance
  • Taking ownership to simplify integration with key systems interfacing global and local platforms
  • Presenting in the architecture review boards to present enterprise and solution architecture
  • Monitoring market trends to identify innovation opportunities and propose best of the breed solutions that bring value to the business
  • Defining, promoting and enforcing architecture frameworks, principles, standards, guidelines to both business and IT stakeholders
  • Driving initiatives without any formal authority with a “can do” attitude along with technical expertise. Challenge status quo to ensure continuous improvement and lead with purpose.
  • Being a proponent for innovation, best practices and sound architecture with optimization of data, technology & platform in mind.


Basic Qualifications:


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology and 6 or more years of experience in the Information Technology area OR
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent in Information Technology and 8 or more years of experience in the Information Technology area OR
  • Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree in Information Technology and 6 or more years of experience in the Information Technology area


Preferred Qualifications:


  • Understanding of commercial insurance and related business processes
  • In-depth knowledge of tools, concepts, methodologies and techniques of enterprise and business architecture including familiarity with industry standard practices
  • Deep experience of SAP and Guidewire ecosystems, Salesforce, MuleSoft, etc.
  • Extensive understanding of Data Lake and Cloud Solutions preferably Azure & AWS, APIs and other integration patterns/technology solutions and other emerging and digital technologies
  • Experience around the design and development of solutions across different functional domains leveraging varied technologies including CI/CD and DevSecOps
  • Understanding of data architecture, advanced analytical and big data technologies
  • Experience around application of Lean startup and agile architecture methodologies
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively at all levels in a collaborative environment
  • Excellent verbal, written and group presentation skills
  • Team building and conflict resolution skills
  • Strong ability to resolve complex problems and issues
  • Master’s degree is preferred
