Opportunity

Head of Data & AI / Chief Data Officer (CDO) is a critical member of the executive leadership team and is accountable for the definition and implementation of the Data Strategy and Data Policy to become a data-driven organization. Also, the CDO is accountable for defining and executing ways for creating business value out of data and AI ensuring the correct implementation of the Data Governance Framework. 

 

Role 

Main responsibilities will involve:

  • Developing and implementing a comprehensive data strategy that leverages data assets to create business value, enhance customer experience, and advance the company's competitive position.
  • Collaborating with business leaders to identify & deliver new data-driven opportunities to generate growth, improve efficiency, and enhance the customer experience.
  • Driving the creation of a data-driven culture that leverages data and analytics to support decision making and drive business impacts
  • Defining data management strategy for the enterprise based on the Group Data Strategy combined with the local business and IT objectives.
  • Activating mechanisms to ensure data is managed as a strategic asset within the organization and ensuring quality of critical data in all Systems / Environments.
  • Maintaining and updating the Data and AI Governance framework, policies, and procedures for data and information governance.
  • Delivering data and AI related initiatives in accordance with industry regulations, including data privacy and security requirements.
  • Developing and implementing a data and AI literacy program that equips employees with the skills and knowledge needed to use data effectively.

Skills and Experience 

Skills and qualifications will ideally include:

  • Strong leadership skills and ability to lead cross-functional teams.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to articulate complex data concepts to a non-technical audience both in English and Japanese.
  • Proven track record of successfully leading data and AI related initiatives and delivering results, with a focus on developing and executing data strategies.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to apply data-driven insights to business challenges.
  • Expertise in analytics tools such as Python, SQL, Hadoop, and other similar technologies.
  • Experience with modeling as the CDO will need to understand how to build and validate models that can be used to derive insights from data.
  • A bachelor's degree in a relevant field, such as computer science, information technology, or business administration, and a master's degree is preferred.
  • Deep understanding of data management technologies, such as data warehouses, data lake, data integration tools ( Informatica,…)  which are used to extract, transform, and load (ETL) data from various sources, analytics platforms (PowerBI, …), robotics tool (RPA), and be familiar with Data Platform stack (Azure, …), as well as AI related technologies such as large language model, generative AI, voice to text, the CDO should be able to work closely with IT teams to implement and maintain these technologies, as well as lead efforts to drive innovation and create value.
  • Knowledge of data privacy and security regulations.


Key Stakeholders 

Chief Data Officer will closely interact with :

  • Chief Operations Officer: CDO reports to COO
  • Head of business : understands business needs and issues
  • Chief Compliance Officer: consult regarding data governance and local regulations
  • Chief Marketing Officer: consult regarding data strategy from customer experience perspective
  • Group & APAC Data team: regular communication to understand Group and APAC data strategy
  • Local business SMEs: understands issues and challenges and address them together
  • Local IT teams: enhance data governance and enrich the data management platform and maturity
  • Data scientists: utilize data for business growth
  • Other local management

 

CDO has a big exposure to the local and global executives and hence requires strong commitment to the output.

 

Additional Information 

Primary work location can be anywhere but often may require to work in Higashi Nakano office.

No much travel expected.
