Zurich Canada is currently looking for a market facing Sr. Underwriter to join the Accident & Health team.


Reporting to the AVP, Underwriting Manager, A&H, you will work be tasked with sourcing new business opportunities and underwriting results in growing the portfolio nationally across Canada.

What you will do

 

•    Source new business opportunities and manage underwriting results to grow the portfolio nationally across Canada.
•    Administer and monitor underwriting rules, guidelines, insurance laws, regulations, and rating annual rules.
•    Develop and maintain relationships with brokers to support business retention and acquisition.
•    Provide guidance to lower-level associates and collaborate with Line of Business representatives on referrals and other business-related needs.
•    Negotiate terms and conditions, close deals, and cross-sell other lines of business.
•    Participate in Sales Team meetings and engage in the target account process.
•    Serve as the key Zurich contact for assigned target accounts and calculate target prices accurately using underwriting tools.
•    Measure exposures, analyze risks, quote and set coverage, and handle declinations/cancellations.
•    Lead marketing presentations and provide technical advice to customers.
•    Develop and maintain positive customer relationships and anticipate customer needs.
•    Lead short-term projects and contribute to the development of underwriting manuals, programs, and guidelines.


 

Job Qualifications - What you bring to the table

 

Required:
• High School Diploma or Equivalent and 3 or more years of experience in market facing Accident & Health Underwriting 
OR
• High School Diploma or Equivalent and 6 or more years of experience in Underwriting Support or Claims area
OR
• Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 1 or more years of experience in experience in market facing Accident & Health Underwriting 
OR
• Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 4 or more years of experience in the Claims or 
Underwriting Support area
AND
• Knowledge of Accident & Health line of business and legal and regulatory guidelines
• Knowledge of time restraints for quotes on new and renewal business
• Experience with Microsoft Office

 

Preferred:
• Bachelors Degree and 3 or more years of Accident & Health underwriting in a market facing role
• Strong negotiation skills
• Strong verbal and written communication skills 
• Microsoft Office skills
For Positions posted in QC only:
• French language skills required for QC candidates
• Fluency in both spoken and written English is required to facilitate communication with internal and external stakeholders outside Quebec.
