Sr. Underwriter - Construction

Job Summary 


Using strong analytical skills, the successful candidate will Underwrite, manage and develop a portfolio of Construction Risks including Property, Casualty, Inland Marine and Project Specific covers (CAR / EAR, Wrap-up) in accordance with Zurich guidelines.

Taking a solution oriented approach you will foster, develop and maintain a strong network of relationships with our Broker partners and our Customers as needed.

Interaction and cooperation with other Lines of Business as needed to ensure we are able to respond to our customers’ needs.  You will also assist in the training and development of more junior underwriters and underwriting assistants on the team.

Demonstrate continuous learning and curiosity to continue to grow with the Construction unit with Zurich and the industry in general.


Job Qualifications 

Basic Qualifications: 
• High School Diploma or Equivalent and 3 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area. For SURETY POSITIONS ONLY: OR Finance, Accounting or Banking experience
• High School Diploma or Equivalent and 6 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area
• Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 1 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area
• Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 4 or more years of experience in the Claims or
Underwriting Support area
• Knowledge of line/s of business and the legal and regulatory guidelines
• Knowledge of time restraints for quotes on new and renewal business
• Experience with Microsoft Office 

Preferred Qualifications: 
• Bachelors Degree 
A solution-oriented mindset to align with our Customer-Led approach.

Proven training and development of junior underwriters and underwriting assistants.

Business project involvement to implement new or updating products and systems, as needed.

Fosters a positive team environment, within and outside the business unit.

Has a developed and disciplined approach to exposure evaluation, risk assessment and pricing.

Demonstrates strong analytical skills.

Proactively seeks new account opportunities.
