Data Solutions Engineer, Commercial Insurance Sustainability, 80-100%, 2 year assignment

This role will contribute to the Zurich Sustainability Reporting on the Group’s Underwriting and Commercial Insurance Portfolio. Focus will be, but is not limited to, working to ensure the data quality and automation of implementing key UW KPIs for group’s transition plan, reporting and other relevant aspects. 

 

What you will do

 

Develop and maintain the UW Sustainability data platform, including:

 

  • Data integration and platform development: Collaborate with technical/IT functions in Commercial Insurance, Group Technology and Operations and other departments, design and implement the technical infrastructural changes required for UW carbon foot printing models, climate scenario analysis, and relevant UW sustainability targets. Develop and maintain ETL processes to ensure accurate and timely data ingestion. Conduct unit tests, ensure code quality, and maintain developed solutions

  • Data Architecture: design and implement robust data models in the infrastructures and solutions to support analytical and operational use cases in implementing UW Sustainability targets. Ensure data architecture supports scalability, reliability, and also flexible to adapt in an evolving environment

  • Data Quality and Governance: perform data quality checks on internal and external data sources and modelled results, e.g. Engagement list and O&G screening list; perform such checks both automatically through building relevant tools and environments and on demand. Contribute to the appropriate documentation for external assurance

  • Security and Compliance: work to help the data platform comply with relevant data security standards, protection regulations and internal policies. Maintain data platform and resolve issues on demand. Construct and maintain relevant technical documentation

  • Work with external data venders and integrate new data sources into Zurich’s Sustainability data landscape as fit

  • Construct relevant dashboards and apps to facilitate implementing sustainable target globally. E.g. develop process tracking tool for customer engagements

  • Support on organising and structuring the ESG/sustainability data landscape, align data needs to Zurich’s UW Sustainability strategy and targets. Advise on technology and data selections, while considering the broad, diverse range of internal/external sources and dynamic business requirements


What you bring

 

  • Bachelor/Master’s degree in a quantitative discipline such as Computer Science, Natural Sciences, Engineering, Actuarial Science, Statistics and Economics

  • Experience with data transformation and aggregation tools. Familiar with ETL technologies and Cloud platforms/technologies such as Databricks

  • Good Knowledge of programming languages such as Python, SQL, and relevant data engineering & visualisation tools

  • Organised, self-motivated, excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail

  • Able to conduct research and derive insights on your own while not shy away from asking for help proactively where required

  • Communicate clearly and constructively; openminded and willing to discuss critically to find a better solution  

  • Innovative, curious, fast learner with can-do attitude; team player 

  • Proficient in English

 

Preferred Skills 

 

  • Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Snowflake) and big data technologies (e.g., Hadoop, Spark)

  • Experience with PowerBI / PowerApps and other visualisation/frontend tools and languages

  • Experience with Data Quality technologies such as Informatica and Collibra 

  • Knowledge and interest in the topic of sustainability is a plus

  • Good business acumen

  • Strategic thinking
