ZGEBS Captive Underwriter

We are looking for a commercial minded underwriter, at ease in interactions with customers, interested in working in an international and challenging environment. The captive underwriter is the primary point of contact for any technical related topics in relation to our captive customers. The scope of the function includes support to the sales team for winning new customers, setting up the reinsurance arrangements and providing underwriting support to the captive.


What you will do

  • The captive underwriter will sit within the Zurich Global Employee Benefits Solution (ZGEBS) Underwriting team in Zurich and will be supporting dedicated captive customers. This includes:
  • Contribute to the request for proposal process alongside the sales team, by bringing technical expertise to the ZGEBS proposal.
  • Support the implementation process for newly acquired captives, by setting-up the reinsurance program, which includes the reinsurance agreement wording and any credit risk related matters.
  • Evaluate captive protection needs and provide offer in line with ZGEBS profitability and risk appetite.
  • Provide professional underwriting support to the captives for the onboarding and renewal of any cases being fronted through the ZGEBS network, while ensuring that the ZGEBS profitability targets are met.
  • The captive underwriter will also play an active role in promoting the ZGEBS captive expertise externally. This means:
    • Representing ZGEBS in finalist presentations,
    • Exchanging on a regular basis with captive customers, addressing their needs,
    • Promoting ZGEBS expertise externally, in professional conferences, with employee benefit consultants.
  • The captive underwriter will be essential in developing and enhancing the ZGEBS captive proposition. This will be achieved by listening to the demands of the market and aligning them with the objectives of Zurich.
  • Wider underwriting support to the ZGEBS underwriting team is expected, such as deputising other underwriters during their absences


What you bring

  • 3-5 years of experience in underwriting employee benefit/reinsurance schemes for Life and Health business
  • Degree in mathematics, finance or similar
  • International insurance experience and / or underwriting experience
  • Experience in setting up reinsurance agreements would be an advantage
  • Strong analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills
  • Understanding of insurance programs and risk solutions
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications (including Word, PowerPoint; Excel)
  • Strong communication skills. At ease in presenting to and discussing with customers and communicating about technical topics to a wide range of stakeholders, including sales and operation functions and external customers
  • Ability to quickly understand and make use of new technical information in relation to risk assessment
  • Ability to understand, interpret and translate customer requirements into deliverables
