Risk Engineering – the Zurich Way

We would like to attract a Risk Engineer with a passion for assessing operational risks in a changing business environment as part of the overall strategy ‘together for our customers’. We are looking for trusted risk advisors who are able to combine their technical expertise with business knowledge helping our customers to achieve their objectives by managing the up- and down site of risk.

To support your continuous personal development ambitions we offer a structured Qualify to Perform (Q2P) program. This includes e-learning, self-study, peer reviews/coaching and risk assessment calibration training sessions in the field of property, machinery breakdown, business interruption, cyber, marine and/or liability risk assessments.

As a Risk Engineer you will play a key role in our customer’s and underwriter’s risk selection process. This by identifying, assessing and providing effective advice on risk management issues to reduce the impact on business interruptions and cash flow. These assessments can be on a location or on an overall account basis.

 

In practice you will be visiting customers on-site, facilitating risk assessments and presenting your findings to the customer’s management and to our own underwriters. This supported by our continues efforts of learning from previous events to improve our processes and to provide customers with risk insights to support their risk management objectives. This requires in both cases a customer oriented approach combining service excellence with consulting and negotiating skills.

 

To facilitate your remote work environment you will have access to our real-time systems and on-site assessment tools. Our FlexWork approach will help you to manage your time efficiently but also enables you to be in direct contact with your 12 Risk engineering colleagues based in the Benelux region.

 

Your profile

  • Master or Bachelor degree: Chemical- or Process- or Supply Chain or Mechanical- or Marine Engineering.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in Dutch and English, French or German is an asset.
  • 10 to 15 years’ industry experience  and/or combined in assessing operational risks working within the insurance industry as an insurer or a broker.
  • Additional assets are experience in:
    • Chemical, oil or petrochemical industry                     and/or
    • Supply chain                                                               and/or
    • Sprinkler protection / Fixed Fire Protection                and/or
    • Business Interruption                                                  and/or
    • Machinery Breakdown                                                and/or
  • Overnight travel* is expected, this depending on the survey program and the use of our international risk engineering network. (*This is subject to Benelux travel policy)
